Automated Tax Resolution And Collection Service Launched

There’s a new game in town, and it’s the first foray of automation into the IRS Tax Resolution field, sort of.

Settleitsoft, Inc., of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has rolled out what they are call an innovative, intuitive debt negotiation software platform, systematically designed to help alleviate the debtors’ universal problem of harassing phone calls and other unfair debt collection practices.

Sounds a bit like what an Enrolled Agent or other taxpayer representative is tasked to do.

According to SettleiTsoft, their proprietary technology has been created to help protect consumers by eliminating the predatory activities of IRS private debt collectors, and leveling the playing field in the multi-billion-dollar debt settlement industry.

Their Patent Pending software enables debtors to electronically communicate and virtually negotiate with almost all of their creditors in ways never before possible through secure web portals and phone applications.

Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (P.L. 95-109), debtors have the right to request in what manner and when creditors shall contact them. In utilizing the SettleiTsoft platform, debtors are establishing this electronic method of communications as their preferred manner of negotiation, which should cease collection phone calls from debt collectors.

The system platform utilizes proprietary private messaging and sophisticated notification algorithms – which connect debtors and their creditors in real time – as well as an easy to use filing system to aid in audit purposes.

In addition, the platform provides debt relief alternatives to those consumers who simply want to control and better manage their personal finances.

While the software is not exclusively a tax resolution or negotiation tool, it appears to have the ability to expand to at somepoint have the financial analysis tools that tax representatives use to provide offers.

The Internal Revenue Service private debt collection companies work on commission to go after overdue payments from millions of people who owe about $138 billion to the federal government, something the IRS has done itself for decades.

This action has consumer watchdogs fearful that some of the nation’s most vulnerable taxpayers will be harassed and that criminals will take advantage of the system by phoning people and impersonating IRS collectors.

Chi Chi Wu, a staff attorney with the National Consumer Law Center, told NBC News, “There are so many reasons why it’s a bad idea that the IRS has been forced to use private debt collectors . . . All too often, consumers are being mistreated by debt collectors and now taxpayers are at risk of that in the collection of tax debt.”

Nina E. Olson, IRS Consumer Advocate, told Congress that “in years past, the outside collectors employed by the government used psychological tricks that may have coerced some debtors into payments they could not afford.”

The SettleiTsoft web-based and mobile accessible platform offers 24/7 assistance to debtors and creditors as a bridge to facilitate and streamline the debt negotiation process. The software is designed to replace the traditional methods of debt settlements with an interactive and secure online debt settlement process that gives consumers complete control of negotiations as to the terms of their debt settlements and creditor payment agreements.

Both the I.R.S. and the debt collectors say they will be mindful of taxpayers’ rights. One of the companies, Pioneer Credit Recovery, will “comply with debt collection rules and consumer protections,” the company said in a statement posted on its website. If so, consumers who invite private debt collectors to communicate and negotiate with them through the SettleiTsoft platform, should find ready acceptance by these companies.

In fact, under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (P.L. 95-109) – which the private debt collectors are required to obey- debtors have the right to request in what manner and when creditors may contact them and thus avoid predatory collection practices, and while most taxpayers have opted to use an Enrolled Agent or other professional, SettleiTsoftT appears to be at the forefront of negotiation software.

By establishing this electronic method of communications as their preferred manner of negotiation, the first benefit is that the collection calls from creditors are stopped, and hopefully allows the unpaid tax obligation to be amicably resolved.

Just as tax software has begun making serious inroads into the tax preparation market, and hitting local tax preparation firms hard in the wallet, this new technology has the potential to disrupt the tax resolution business.
