Not only are you paying taxes in Illinois but now you are also in some cases, paying a tax to cover the cost of the state collecting those taxes.
The new Illinois state budget contains a new tax-collection fee that means that 2 percent of certain local tax dollars collected by the state on behalf of municipalities and counties will be kept by the state.
That could add up to about $60 million annually.

Locally, Champaign will see their tax hit amount to $367,000 in one year while Urbana will make do with $85,000 less.
