Not only are you paying taxes in Illinois but now you are also in some cases, paying a tax to cover the cost of the state collecting those taxes.

The new Illinois state budget contains a new tax-collection fee that means that 2 percent of certain local tax dollars collected by the state on behalf of municipalities and counties will be kept by the state.

That could add up to about $60 million annually.

Some municipalities saw this coming and have set aside funds to cover the expense but others will now have to figure out how to make due with less.

Locally, Champaign will see their tax hit amount to $367,000 in one year while Urbana will make do with $85,000 less.
